Youth Art 2013

The City of Durango’s Public Art Commission invited all youth artists (9th-12th grader in the school year of 2013-2014 to submit an application to the City’s Art on Loan program for a special installation in the Botanical Demonstration  Garden at the Durango Public Library.

We have so enjoyed the inaugural piece " Desert Water" by Keagon Felker. Hope everyone had a chance to see the beautiful cactus that has adorned our garden for the last two years. You still have an opportunity to meet that artist and purchase the piece.

What a turn out this year. The entry event is now closed and we have 9 finalists for this years event.Come to the City Rec Center on  Thursday March 28th from 5-7 and meet the finalists in a special open house sponsored by the Art Commission. The selection committee will make their decision on Friday March 1st. The First-Place artist (or group of artists) will receive an $800 honorarium as well as recognition and an opportunity for sale of the work while on display.  The submission voted Second Place will receive a $200 honorarium. How exciting! Join the fun at the Rec Center and support these artists in their mission to create public art.
